The AAG Redistricting Panel Series kicks off this Friday, Sept 3rd with “Connecticut Redistricting with Geographers: Mapping for Equity and Inclusion”! After 10 years with our country’s current congressional and state district maps, the time has come to redraw the lines. The AAG Redistricting Panel Series will equip geographers with the tools and knowledge to take action in their states as new maps are drawn.
All events in this series are virtual, free to attend and registration is open to anyone. The Connecticut panel on Friday, September 3rd at 11am ET will focus on the state’s opportunities for public input as new districts are drawn. Panelists will explore the intersectionality of geography, mathematics, political science, and law in the process of drawing fair, equitable maps. Attendees will also become familiar with Dave’s Redistricting App, and explore how GIS can be used to draw fair districts.
