Health Geography PhD positions at UConn

Recruiting Ph.D. student in Health Geography; Social Justice at University of Connecticut-Storrs

Associate Professor, Debs Ghosh from the Department of Geography and Institute for Collaboration on Health Intervention and Policy at the University of Connecticut-Storrs is seeking a motivated PhD student for her research lab, SAHI (Spatial Analysis of Health Issues). The position will begin in Fall 2021 and is funded for 4 years with a combination of funding from NIH and the Department of Geography.

The student will have the opportunity to learn and work on several interdisciplinary research projects focused on understanding health-seeking behavior and health issues/outcomes among vulnerable populations (US and Globally) using a range of methods. Methods employed in the SAHI lab range from statistical analysis, geospatial techniques, surveys, to qualitative techniques. The final goal is to provide evidence-based information for addressing social justice – reducing health inequality, inequity, disparity, and environmental injustices. Sufficient research data and opportunities are available to spin-off dissertation topics from the current projects.

Funding support will include a tuition waiver, stipend, fringe benefits, and some conference travel. (See geography.uconn.edu/graduate). Priority will be given to students with a Master’s degree and knowledge of GIS. Familiarity with SPSS or R statistical software packages is preferred, but not required. A willingness to work in an interdisciplinary research environment is a must.

If interested, email Debs Ghosh (debarchana.ghosh@uconn.edu) with your CV. A full application to the graduate program is required (see grad.uconn.edu/admissions/). Applications with funding considerations are due by January 5th, 2021.
