Data Analyst I-II (GIS)

About the Position:  The Data Analyst I/II provides GIS support to a variety of open space projects and business lines, from designing production-quality maps and beautiful web map applications, to conducting complex spatial analysis and data management assignments. The ideal candidate will use critical thinking and creativity to answer unique geospatial questions. In addition, this position performs routine to moderately complex technical tasks related to the design, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and monitoring of enterprise GIS databases, applications, and service libraries. The Data Analyst I/II actively collaborates with other departments to document requirements and conduct trainings, therefore excellent oral and written communication skills are paramount. Candidates are required to have experience with Esri’s ArcGIS platform, including ArcMap and ArcCatalog. The preferred candidate will have experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise, including Portal for ArcGIS, Web AppBuilder, Collector for GIS, and Survey 123, as well as knowledge of Python and SQL programming languages. Familiarity with natural resource management issues and open space/park planning concepts is also desired.

This Data Analyst I/II position is assigned the GIS function and resides in the Information Systems and Technology (IST) Department, reporting directly to the GIS Program Administrator. To learn more about this position, see the job description on Midpen’s website.

Work Environment:  This position is located at Midpen’s offices in Los Altos, California. The work environment is primarily an office setting with standard computer equipment, but this job involves occasional field work requiring traversing steep terrain and wildland areas.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Data Analyst I and II Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in GIS, geography, information management systems, computer science, or a related field. Knowledge of or education in environmental science or resource management is desirable.

Data Analyst I: One (1) year of experience in providing technical GIS support, which includes logical and physical database administration; spatial analytics; data reporting and/or scripting; and/or data quality and integrity.

Data Analyst II: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in technical GIS support, equivalent to a Data Analyst I at Midpen, which includes: spatial analytics, data reporting and scripting; and/or data quality and integrity. Technical project management is desirable.

Annual Pay Range: Data Analyst I $79,644 – $99,453; Data Analyst II $87,792 – 109,650

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
