Responsibilities

The Senior Application Development Programmer – GIS will collaborate with GIS team members as well as business stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables relating to all aspects of the Enterprise GIS including, but not limited to, GIS and non-GIS application development, maintenance, as well as day to day server, application and end user support.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Ability to operate in a fast-paced dynamic environment, organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Act as the technical analyst for GIS related projects or small demand activities working to build and/or deliver a quality product to stakeholders.

Provide technical support for geospatial data requests/queries as well as database SQL queries and analysis..

Find solutions to complex GIS application issues, taking direction from senior team members and working with our GIS vendor partners.

With guidance from senior team members and external training, will need to become accustomed to GIS best practices, methodologies and standards as well as the Esri and Schneider Electrics ArcFM suite of tools.

Assist in the technical phases of major projects, helping to establishing the technical plans, providing technical support and leading testing and training activities with end users.

Provide first line GIS production support through IT trouble ticketing enterprise tools.

Work with other IT groups to coordinate and perform GIS infrastructure maintenance tasks as needed.

Provide support for ArcGIS/ArcFM Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online applications.

Work with team members to support existing GIS integrations and associated automated processes.

Develop GIS scripts for general functions including geoprocessing activities.

 

Skills and Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, GIS, or related field. Consideration will be given to additional years of relevant experience and/or relevant technical certifications in addition to the degree requirement.

 

 

Experience

 

Requires a minimum of 6+ years of related work experience with GIS, and/or Engineering, or a related field within the Electric and Gas Utility industry, preferably in IT

 

 

Skills:

Experience and/or demonstrated understanding of enterprise GIS concepts and principles.

Experience and/or demonstrated understanding of ESRI’s suite of products including; ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Apps and ArcGIS for Developers.  Version 10.x preferred.

Experience with Schneider Electrics ArcFM Suite of tools and products supporting gas and electric utilities.  Version 10.x preferred.

Experience with enterprise GIS for utility networks (specific focus on electric and gas).

Accountable for the successful delivery of assigned projects, small demand tasks and assigned production support tickets.

Understanding and general knowledge in enterprise GIS platform support including general GIS Server and application administration.

General knowledge in SAP along with willingness to gain experience in this area.

Ability to interact with end users to help define and/or refine business requirements based on functional designs for GIS applications.

Ability to interact with end users to help guide end user training and testing activities.

Ability to interact with technical developers to provide technical analysis and testing.

A general understanding of Electric & Gas Operations, Customer Service and Work Management practices and the willingness to learn more in these areas.

Basic knowledge with design, setup and configuration of GIS desktop and server applications hosted on a high-availability platform and a willingness to learn more in these areas.

General experience supporting an enterprise geodatabase.  This includes troubleshooting geodatabase issues as well as experience making data modeling schema modifications.

General knowledge and working experience using SQL.

General knowledge and working experience creating python scripts to perform geoprocessing functions.  Understanding automation techniques is a plus.

A desire to proactively identify and address technical and functional issues and omissions before they become production defects.

Proficient in use of Excel, Access and PowerPoint and PL SQL.

Beginner-level Python programming and model building.

Basic knowledge of CYME and AutoCAD and the willingness to learn about them to provide support.

Experience with Service-Now a plus.

Willingness to travel to other Operating Company locations for support as needed.

Participate in On Call support rotation.
