Job Title:  Hydrologist I

Division/Bureau: Bureau of Watershed Management and Modeling

Job Summary:

This is entry level work in the District’s Water Supply Planning and Assessment program assisting in the development and running of geospatial models and development of databases for incorporation into surface water modeling efforts.

Job duties include:

  • Assists with development and running of geospatial models (such as predictive models and geographic suitability analyses); helps to identify and describe spatial and temporal environmental factors that constrain and influence location of environmental phenomena; assists with the analysis of events for likelihood of event occurrence or emergence. Responsibilities include GIS data development and management (i.e. geodatabase development) including QAQC, performing geospatial analyses to support model development, and assisting in determining data needs for watershed studies.
  • Assists with surface water modeling studies for the development of management strategies for water supply and restoration.  Responsibilities include acquiring and analyzing hydrologic and water quality data from the District’s database and external sources and performing quality assessment and correction of hydrologic and meteorological data.
  • Develops and maintains modeling databases in support of watershed, instream, groundwater flow and water quality models for water resource assessment and planning.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in geology, geography, hydrology, environmental science, ecology or related field.  Experience using GIS required (ESRI, QGIS, other).  Prefer candidate with experience using remote sensing software (Erdas imagine, ENVI, other) and data retrieval tools (R, ArcPy, Python).

Additional Details:

Base Salary: $39,894.40

Starting salary commensurate with selected candidate’s competencies and qualifications.
